What’s with the sex obsession?
I am writing this in response to hearing for the 400th time that Sen. Sherrod Brown is too liberal for Ohio based upon his tolerance for transgender people, and how Bernie Moreno is the answer.
Why is sex something that is so scary to people?
We have children being slaughtered on a regular basis by gun violence. Politicians just shake (or bow) their heads and say there is nothing to be done.
In Ohio, the answer was to give everyone universal access to carry without universal background checks. Sherrod Brown has proposed stricter background checks. Bernie says it’s society, he doesn’t say anything about how he would cure it. Just what we need, another “thoughts and prayers” guy.
Kids are besieged by first-person shooter video games, and movies, where the body count is Las Vegas style and yet sex, or talk about it, or knowledge of it, is the thing we should fear for them?
They are also besieged by thoughts of being gunned down at school. What poses the existential threat to our children, sex or guns?
Vote for reality. Vote for Sherrod Brown.

Volunteering better than fretting, complaining
For the fourth year, I have been trained by the Franklin County Board of Elections on how to serve as a “roster judge” – the person who checks identification to ensure eligibility to vote.
I was a trainer by profession. The content of this training is impressive and thorough. I always leave thinking “they have thought of everything.”
If you lack confidence in the security and integrity of the elections process, I highly encourage you to volunteer to serve in your local county to see for yourself.
They may still be seeking volunteers for Nov. 5.
Search for board of elections” and your county’s name.
As a Democrat, I commend the team under Republican Frank LaRose, Ohio Secretary of State on the thorough integrity of their operation. I have high confidence in our election system.

Ohio children not being cherished, protected
The Ohio Association of Community Action Agencies recently reported that Ohio’s poverty rate for children was 17.7% in 2022.
According to the report, nearly a fifth of Ohio children under the age of 6 were living in poverty in 2022, and roughly 18% between the ages of 6 and 11 were living in poverty, while 15.9% between the ages of 12 and 17 were also living in poverty.
Additionally, 23% of Ohio children experience tenuous housing conditions, and 14.8% are food insecure. And to add further insult, 86,000 Ohio children were unenrolled in Medicaid programs between March and September of 2023; 4.6% are uninsured. This is beyond outrageous!
Folks, children are precious beyond words; they must be cherished, protected and nourished so they may develop to their full potential.
The state of affairs described in the OACAA report may be the worst example (among a multitude) of the ongoing corrupt, inept governance by Ohio’s elected officials. Where is their humanity and compassion? Such callousness and disregard must end. Now. Remember to vote on November 5.
