Hundreds of hands and hundreds of people made their mark on Art Alley in Windsor on the weekend during a two-day mural painting workshop.
The alley, just off Maiden Lane downtown, is adorned with numerous eye-catching murals. But on the weekend, Daniel “Denial” Bombardier and mural painter Ryan Eyres partnered with Art Windsor Essex to give a hands-on workshop in the alley behind the Terribly Good Studio at 510 Pelissier St.

About 200 people took advantage of the opportunity, said Bombardier.
“We asked them to write messages of peace and positivity. And then we’re going to incorporate it into a mural we’re painting so that their messages stay in the mural,” he said.
It was the 29th mural workshop. They run a couple of times each year.
“It just shows a level of care and appreciation for even your back alleyways that are generally disregarded. … It’s a way for people to engage in their city and it adds colour to their life and positivity,” Bombardier said.

Another 500 people came out to the Part Art Part Party event on Saturday night, where art was auctioned off on the newly finished roof-top patio of the gallery.
About 20 pieces sold. The proceeds will help bring in artists from around the world to make their mark with murals in the alley, said Bombardier.
“I’ve been to about 100 mural festivals around the world and painted all over the world and made friends with all different artists. We try and bring them back here to paint in our city.
“We like to show a really diverse set of creativity. If you’re getting art from one city, you’re getting one voice, kind of one story. So we try and curate different artists from different places in the world.”
Currently, there are murals painted by artists from Switzerland, San Diego, Los Angeles, Seattle, Denver, Berlin, and Montreal in the alley, which opened in 2022.
