Early November’s pleasantly mild weather postponed the need for cold-weather clothing, but several dozen local businesses are planning ahead for the arrival of Old Man Winter by launching the first Super Winter Warm Up campaign to collect gently used clothing for children and families in need.
The campaign kicked off to start the month and will run for another two weeks. All winter clothing will be delivered and donated to schools throughout Windsor and Essex County.

“We have drop-off locations throughout the city and county and all clothing dropped off in a community will be distributed in that community,” said Super Mortgage Team co-owner Joe Bondy, whose firm organized the event and used its connections to recruit other businesses to join in the campaign.
“There’s been an overwhelming response. We’ve got 50 volunteers and we’ve already had to start emptying bins.
“Windsor and Essex County are full of such generous people. It’s nice to be able to give back and do some good for people.
“We try to do four things like this each year.”
The campaign is looking for donations of used winter clothing, such as hats, gloves, coats scarves and snow pants, for all ages.
“After we collect it all, we’ll deliver it to the schools,” said Bondy. “We thought that would make it easier for families to not to have to pay for gas to travel to a warehouse.”
