HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) – Time is running out for Huntsville Hospital patients who are United Healthcare customers.
In October the hospital announced it would be cutting ties with the insurance company unless they could come to an agreement. The current agreement expires in one week.
WAFF 48 News has been reaching out for comment from UHC and Huntsville Hospital but both declined to talk on camera about this issue.
UHC patients coming to Huntsville Hospital will be out of network after November 15.
An official from United Healthcare sent the following statement regarding current negations:
We are engaged in active discussions with Huntsville Hospital Health System, We remain committed to reaching an agreement that’s affordable for Huntsville families and employers.
Huntsville Hospital announced in mid-October that they were cutting ties with United Healthcare. This all comes after months of negotiations between the two groups.
Senior Benefits of North Alabama owner Scott Ivey says he has had a lot of customers worried about their coverage. He also said that not all UHC customers will be affected.
Ivey recommends that you speak with your agent or broker to find out how these negations will affect you and what options you have moving forward.
“There is one other company and plan that we are contracted with that they could enroll in as long as they do it before the end of November they could at least have coverage for Huntsville Hospital for December,” said Ivey.
Ivey also says that coverage may continue for those with ongoing conditions who use Huntsville Hospital as long as the issue started before UHC was out of network.
He urges customers to speak with their brokers or agents to find out how this will affect them and what their options are.
