- Kewlbiverse is an upcoming open-world RPG creature collector
- And if you’re getting shades of Palworld you’re not alone
- But this new take looks to emphasise quirkiness over heavy weapons
Ever since Palworld blew the doors off the metaphorical place it seems like everyone is trying to jump on the open-world RPG, creature-collecting bandwagon. But few have managed to capture the joy and whimsy of the originator, Pokemon, and mainly looked like riffs on the Palworld concept. But Kewlbiverse looks set to be a bit different, not least because their creatures are called Faeby.
For one, while it contains the requisite creature collection, weapons and open-world RPG exploration it also pitches itself as being just a bit more whimsical and quirky. Something that the Pal-likes we’ve seen popping up seem to avoid.
Launching into a closed beta, we’ll have the chance to see a whole lot more about Kewlbiverse in the near future. Coming from Aidelweiss studio, a developer comprised of industry veterans, there are clearly high hopes that they’ll manage to make a mark with a chill monster tamer.
A little lighter and a bit softer
I think the Kewlbiverse concept is certainly a good one. An issue I have with games like Palworld and those that’ve copied it is that they lean too heavily on the already rather tired idea of adding guns and more grim aspects to a creature-collecting game. When I think what many people really want is something that’s like Pokemon but doesn’t have any of the baggage or drawbacks of Gamefreak’s more recent output.
