Emergency services are urgently searching for a fisherman who reportedly jumped into the Nepean River, in Sydney’s west, and failed to resurface.
NSW Police were first called to Nortons Basin at Mulgoa, south of Penrith, about 11am on Saturday where they were told a man had “disappeared after jumping into the water from a cliff”.

The man, believed to be in his 60s, was fishing with his partner when he dropped his rod and jumped into the water in an attempt to retrieve it.
His partner raised the alarm with authorities when the man did not resurface, police said.
Officers from NSW Police, the SES, Fire and Rescue NSW and NSW Ambulance are searching for the man in the water, and a PolAir helicopter is heading towards the area.
The basin is not directly accessible by vehicle.
