The Lajeunesse Royals made the most of a second chance.
The Royals dropped the SWOSSAA senior boys’ A volleyball championship to the Chatham Christian Flames on Tuesday.
However, with Chatham hosting this year’s OFSAA championship, a second SWOSSAA entry was up for grabs and the Royals earned that spot with a 3-0 win over the Blenheim Bobcats in the challenge game.

The Royals took the match 25-19, 25-20 and 25-21 to earn a spot at the provincial championship, which is set for Nov. 21-23.
The results were not as positive for the Holy Names Knights senior boys’ volleyball team or Vista Academy Vortex senior girls’ basketball team.
The Knights failed to advance to OFSAA after falling 3-0 to the Chatham Ursuline Lancers in the SWOSSAA senior boy’s AAA volleyball final. The Lancers took the match 25-14, 26-24 and 25-22.
Meanwhile, the Vortex fell in in the SWOSSAA senior girls’ AA basketball final by a 48-33 count to the Sarnia Great Lakes Wolfpack, who advanced to OFSAA with the win.
Griffins upset Knights
Once again, the Herman Green Griffins turned the underdog tag into a title.
For the second-straight year, the Green Griffins beat the top-seeded Holy Names Knights to capture the WECSSAA senior boys’ AAA football championship.
Fion Koshi hit an 18-yard field goal with 15 seconds left to play to lift the Green Griffins to a 15-14 victory over the Knights at Acumen Stadium.
Herman’s Ryan Connally ended any late-game comeback hopes for the Knights with an interception to secure the title.
