We are talking about Dev Anand’s film, Hare Rama Hare Krishna. Dev Anand was just brilliant in the movie and along with him, veteran actress Mumtaz was also a part of it. The title song had the very stylish and amazing Zeenat Aman. The movie was the biggest hit of that year.
However, the song Dum Maaro Dum became the talk of the town. The song became a hit but it was banned. People were shocked when the song was released as it was quite a bold one for that era. Many were against this song and the lyrics used. There was a huge controversy and hence, it was banned on radio and television. All India Radio banned this song and Doordarshan decided to cut the song from the film.
Dum Maaro Dum was sung by Asha Bhosle and composed by R.D. Burman and written by Anand Bakshi. Zeenat Aman smoked a chillum in the song and this was not liked by many. This was a bold move for that era. Zeenat Aman received a lot of love later for her performance.
Dev Anand had offered Zeenat Aman’s role to Mumtaz first but she had refused as she didn’t wish to be his sister. Hence, she was given the role of Dev Anand’s wife.
