Canadian songwriter Dominique Way has shared her new EP ‘Sprig’.
The rising artist has truly been on a journey, and these shifts within her life are reflected in Dominique’s work. Floral, melodically confident, and often very revealing, her songwriting joins the dots between pop-edged indie and folk-hewn musicality.
Out now, her new EP ‘Sprig’ – a childhood nickname, seemingly – is about as personal as it gets. Constructed after moving back to Canada, it documents a period of reflection and self-growth. Take the earnest self-doubt of opener ‘How Could I?’ for example, or the potency of ‘Bodysnatcher’ – each song rings out true and clear.
Reminiscent of Julia Jacklin in places, or even Snail Mail, the EP was co-written and produced with Grammy-nominated Harper Gordon (Burna Boy, RAYE, Vince Staples).
Dominique Way comments…
This EP called for a lot of inner exploration as I experimented more than ever with my sound and with art in general. It was also the first time I accepted my emotions and allowed myself to free them through songwriting. Creating ‘Sprig’ pushed me to a place I didn’t expect, but in a way always knew and felt I wanted to be in. I learned so much from the relationships around me and my own while telling these stories and for that, I will forever be grateful. I will always hold this project close to my heart and I’m so thankful for all the people who contributed to make it what it is.
