Are you ready to kick it, ‘80s style?
Legendary Canadian metal band Kick Axe — originally from Regina, now based in Vancouver — is returning to its old stomping grounds as the unofficial headliner for a busy weekend on the local arts and entertainment scene.

After initially splitting up almost 40 years ago, Kick Axe’s latest reunion tour is coming to the Casino Regina Show Lounge on Saturday night as the group prepares to release a new album.

With George Criston unavailable due to other commitments, Kick Axe has welcomed back original singer Gary Langen, who was a vocalist and drummer when the band formed in 1976.
Following the 1984 release of its debut record, Vices, Kick Axe enjoyed mainstream success with singles like Heavy Metal Shuffle, On the Road to Rock, and Rock the World. The band toured with some of the most iconic rock-metal groups in the world, including Judas Priest, Scorpions, Metallica, Rush, Quiet Riot, and Whitesnake.
Meanwhile, on Friday night at the Show Lounge, Bobby Bruce’s Nearly Neil and his Solitary Band — a Neil Diamond tribute show — is making a stop on its 30th anniversary tour.

3. Off Guard
On Cue Performance Hub is premiering a new Canadian play, Off Guard, at the University of Regina’s Shu-Box Theatre.
The four-day presentation began Thursday and runs through Sunday.
Created by Regina-based director/playwright Ibukun-Oluwa Fasunhan, it “shines a spotlight on four Black students from diverse backgrounds who are confronting the harsh and unrelenting realities of racism,” says a news release, adding that the play features “actual words of 31 Black university students from across Canada who reveal the stark truths of their current experiences. The play illuminates the shadows that linger in a nation that often promotes a multi-cultural narrative that fails to acknowledge the struggles experienced by racially marginalized individuals.”
