The tourists are 0-84 at tea, leading by 130 runs.
Earlier, Australia was bowled out for 104 with India securing a 46-run first-innings lead.
Indian skipper Jasprit Bumrah claimed 5-30 from 18 overs, his 11th five-wicket in Tests, to help roll the hosts in 51.2 overs, with debutant Harshit Rana snaring three scalps.
Resuming day two at 6-76, Bumrah removed wicketkeeper Alex Carey, Australia’s last recognised batter, on his first delivery of the day, with the left-hander lazily fishing outside off stump and knicking behind for 21.

Rana bumped out Nathan Lyon before Starc counterpunched by smacking a boundary over mid-wicket, ensuring Australia avoided its lowest Test score against India.
The 25-run stand between Starc and tailender Josh Hazlewood for the tenth wicket was Australia’s highest partnership of the innings, chewing into the deficit to frustrate the Indians.
After farming the strike and soaking up 112 deliveries, the most he’s faced in a Test innings since 2013, Starc lost his patience on 26 and miscued a slog against Rana, with wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant settling underneath the regulation chance.

DAY 1 WRAP
An exhilarating bowling performance from Indian captain Jasprit Bumrah has rattled the Australians at Perth Stadium as 17 wickets fell on day one of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series opener.
The hosts were seemingly in the box seat after rolling India for 150 in the first innings, with Australia’s quicks wreaking havoc on the lively deck in front of a record crowd of 31,302.
However, Bumrah flipped the script by decimating Australia’s top-order in a magical opening spell of 3-9 from six overs, including the dismissals of debutant Nathan McSweeney, veteran Usman Khawaja and superstar Steve Smith.
The Indian quick should have also accounted for Marnus Labuschagne, but teammate Virat Kohli dropped a regulation chance at second slip to hand the Queenslander a massive reprieve on 0.
Australia was 7-67 at stumps on day one, still trailing by 83 runs, with wicketkeeper Alex Carey (19*) and Mitchell Starc (6*) unbeaten overnight. Bumrah, who finished with figures of 4-17 form ten overs, received support from fellow seamer Mohammed Siraj, snaring 7-17 from nine overs.
