Four members of the University of Saskatchewan Huskies football team received U Sports awards prior to the Vanier Cup.
Running back Ryker Frank was honoured twice, once with the Russ Jackson Student-Athlete Community Service Award and also as a second-team All-Canadian.
It’s the first time in program history that a Huskie player has earned the Russ Jackson award and it came after a season that saw Frank, a fourth-year engineering student, tally 929 yards and 10 touchdowns on 153 carries.

Those season totals helped Frank climb higher in the Huskies career record books. He now sits first overall in rushing touchdowns with 21 and second in overall touchdowns with 26, while moving into second place with 3,064 rushing yards and third in carries with 476 as well as all-purpose yards with 4,237.
Also receiving one of the league’s top awards was Jerry Friesen, who earned the Gino Fracas Award for top assistant coach.
Friesen, who has a place on the Huskies Wall of Fame and in the Saskatoon Sports Hall of Fame, joined team in 2017 as a senior advisor coach.
He’s the third coach in program history to claim the award, following Ed Carleton in 2012 and Barry Radcliffe in 2002.
Meanwhile, linebacker Seth Hundeby and receiver Daniel Wiebe were named first-team All-Canadians.
Fourth-year engineering student Hundeby recorded 41 tackles this season, including 29 solo and 24 assisted, as well as four tackles for a loss and two sacks.
Wiebe, a fourth-year kinesiology student, had 52 receptions for 807 yards and seven touchdowns. Only one player across the league had more catches and yards.
