I’ve reviewed Dyson’s older V7 and V8 vacuums, missed out on the V10 and V11, but then have tested nearly all the others that came after. Which is why I can say for sure that the discount on the Dyson Gen5detect is fantastic value!
You can opt for two models – the Absolute is down to AU$879 on Amazon while the Complete is AU$949 at Dyson. I would recommend the latter if you think your budget can stretch a little. Here’s why:
The vacuums themselves are identical in every which way but the colour scheme they come in, but it’s the number of attachments you get in the box that are different. Both will get you the same two main motorised cleaning heads – the Digital Motorbar for carpets and the Fluffy Optic for hard floors – and you’ll also get the Hair Screw Tool thrown in as well. Both also get you the standard Crevice and Combination attachments too.
That’s where it stops for the Absolute, but the list goes on for the Complete. You also get a soft-bristled scratch-free dusting brush, the Awkward Gap tool to get into the tightest of spaces, a bendable extension hose and (my favourite) the free-standing dock that Dyson calls Floor Dok Multi to stow all these things away. Admittedly the Floor Dok doesn’t have enough room for all the attachments, but it’s still a lovely way to store your vacuum cleaner. Just on a per-dollar value, I’d recommend the Complete if you have the extra cash.
