A 31-year-old man has been charged with two counts of murder following the deaths of a married couple who ran the Buzzy Bee Burger House in Cambridge Park on Saturday.
Police found the bodies of Hoa Tek Chien, 69, and Heang Kim Gau, 68, inside the burger joint with significant injuries on Saturday morning following reports of an assault at the premises.
Their investigation quickly turned to footage circulating on social media of a man dressed in black in the vicinity of the area, who one witness said had been on the roofs of the Cambridge Park shops before he jumped to the ground.
Officers arrested the suspect at his Canley Heights home shortly after midnight.
Police will allege that the three people were known to each other.
Police, ambulances and helicopters swamped the area surrounding the strip of shops on Saturday morning as locals – some of them decades-long customers of Buzzy Bee’s – watched detectives and forensic police enter the store.
Heartbroken locals came to grips with the news on social media, recalling that the couple knew their regular customers’ names by heart.
