New Delhi: The National Medical Commission (NMC) has issued a show-cause notice to several medical colleges for failing to submit details of stipends provided to undergraduate and postgraduate interns. The colleges have been directed to furnish the data for the financial year 2023-24 within three days of the notice. As per the report, 115 government colleges and 83 private colleges are yet to submit the information.
The official notice reads, ‘The failure of these medical colleges in submitting the information reg. payment of stipend to the interns / residents is considered seriously, and the medical colleges as per the attached list who have not submitted the requisite information, are hereby directed to show cause as to why penal action should not be taken against them for their failure to submit the information / details of stipend paid.’
According to the notice, the Supreme Court has directed the NMC to submit details of stipends paid to medical interns and residents. In compliance with this order, all health institutions and medical colleges were instructed to provide details of stipends paid to UG interns, PG residents, and Senior Residents or PGs in super specialty programs for the financial year 2023-24.
