Students can apply to the program, which relies on a computer program to select candidates, through citywindsor.ca, the city’s human resources department announced on Friday.
“The program will provide eligible post-secondary students with the opportunity to gain valuable work experience while contributing to the cost of their education,” the city said.

“To ensure that hiring is fair and equitable, the selection of students to be considered is based on a secured computer program that randomly draws applications for order of consideration.”
The summer employment program is a council-approved initiative. It’s subject to budget approval and in compliance with applicable union collective agreements, the city said.
Students who have worked previous summers or are still working for the city must re-apply and meet all qualifications to be eligible for the 2025 job lottery. Students placed in the parks department may be eligible to work year-round.
Applications must be submitted by no later than 4:30 p.m. on Jan. 6, 2025.
Candidates must be at least 17 years old by March 1, 2025. Most positions require a current valid G or G2 class driver’s license.

Candidates must also hold a current certification in first aid and CPR by hire date.
Only students attending a university or community college full-time — four or more courses per semester — are eligible.
Winners will be posted to the city’s summer student lottery results webpage and will be given their lottery ranking number by email the week of Jan. 13.
Offer of employment dates have yet to be determined.
