JUST JOSHING
Don’t look now, but Senators centre Josh Norris is having a very good season. Norris, who scored both Ottawa goals in a 2-1 win over Detroit a couple of days ago, has 11 goals already. That puts the 25-year-old, who has remained healthy, on pace for more than 30 goals this season. Injuries, particularly to his shoulder, have held him back for much of his NHL career. He scored 35 goals in 66 games in the 2021-22 season. For that, he earned a huge eight-year contract extension that averages close to $8 million per season.

ISLE BE DARNED
The Senators’ four-game homestand continues with a visit from the New York Islanders, who are coming off a 4-3 win over Carolina Saturday. The contest will mark the second of three meetings between the teams this season — the Islanders won the first one, a month ago, 4-2. The Senators will play back-to-back games 13 times this season.
Asked about playing Saturday, then turning around and going again Sunday, Senators coach Travis Green said: “Nothing changes (for the players) on back to back. They’re pros, they know what to do.”

SEARCHING FOR AN IDENTITY
The Senators show glimpses of what they can be; a team that, in their defensive zone, keeps opponents on the perimeter and limits scoring chances. Asked about getting that identity, Green said: “It takes time. We’ve shown the type of team we want to be. There’s been a lot of talk the last little bit about going through some adversity … our team is learning.”
