The 13th edition of Admiral’s Cup Sailing Regatta 2024 got under way at the Indian Naval Academy (INA), Ezhimala, on Monday, with Vice Admiral C.R. Praveen Nair, Commandant, INA, inaugurating the event at a ceremony on the Ettikulam beach.
This current edition will see participation by 25 international teams. In addition, two teams from INA, Ezhimala, and National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla, will also participate in the championship, including an all-women team from the INA.
Admiral’s Cup regatta is an annual event aimed at building bridges of friendship with Friendly Foreign Countries (FFCs), strengthen navy-to-navy engagement, and to showcase the INA, which includes a state-of-the-art watermanship and aquatic sports centre named Marakkar Watermanship Training Centre (MWTC), with more than 200 sailing craft.
The Admiral’s Cup and the Runners-up Cup will be awarded to the top two teams in the championship.
In addition, individual medals will be awarded in men’s and women’s categories. The event has gained increasing popularity since its inception in 2010.
