- Tangled Earth is a newly-released 3D platformer for Android
- You play as the android Sol-5, trying to discover the source of a distress signal
- Venture deep into the planet and encounter strange gravity-bending “tangles” as you go
As we head into the weekend it’s once more time to start wrapping up on a few newer releases that might have otherwise slipped under the radar. And today’s subject is the straightforward, low-poly but still surreal 3D platformer Tangled Earth! What’s this gravity-bending new release got to offer? Let’s dig in and find out.
Tangled Earth sees you playing as the colourful neon android Sol-5, as they’re sent deep into the depths of an alien planet to uncover the source of a mysterious distress signal. Along the way, you’ll encounter all manner of puzzles and obstacles, not to mention strange gravitational “tangles” that change your orientation in multiple ways; or allow you to solve puzzles by manipulating the gravity of individual objects.
While the idea of having a constantly shifting perspective may be a confounding one, Tangled Earth professes to have a specially designed camera system, meaning that you won’t find yourself staring askew at the camera when you are tackling the platforming elements. For those of you who hate awkward camera angles, that’s sure to be a plus.
Gravity Rush
Yes, the gravity-shifting mechanic is not exactly new, but it’s still an impressive addition to a mobile game. At the same time, with Tangled Earth, it’s hard to elaborate without simply saying that what you see seems to be what you get. It seems very much worth digging into, if you like that sort of thing, and as the inaugural effort from Rendezvous_Games, it seems quite solid.
Still, if you are hurting for something to play this weekend and Tangled Earth doesn’t quite seem to be your cup of tea, don’t fret. Why not dig into our latest list of the top five new mobile games to try this week and check out all the best releases from the last seven days?
