The New York Mets announced Monday that they have signed the Prince George, B.C., native to a one-year MLB contract.
Young, a 29-year-old utility player, spent the first half of 2024 in the St. Louis Cardinals organization, where he posted a .917 OPS in 74 games, hitting 15 doubles and 11 home runs.
But with a roster crunch in St. Louis, Young signed with the KBO’s Doosan Bears mid-summer. Once in Korea, the left-handed slugger hit 10 homers and 16 doubles in 38 games, slashing .326/.420/.660.
He spent time defensively at first and third base and in both corner outfield spots in 2024.
Originally a 15th-round pick of the Chicago Cubs in 2017, Young made his MLB debut in 2022. He went on to play 22 big league games between ’22 and ’23, collecting seven extra-base hits and eight RBIs.
Young represented Canada at the 2023 World Baseball Classic, picking up two hits, including a home run, over 14 at-bats while appearing in each of the team’s four games.
