Father Christmas is going to struggle to compete as Apple TV Plus has delivered the ‘mother’ of all Christmas presents.
It has revived James Corden’s Carpool Karaoke for a one-off Christmas special featuring queens of pop Dua Lipa, Chappell Roan and Lady Gaga.
In A Carpool Karaoke Christmas, the Gavin and Stacey actor, 46, hands his duties over to broadcaster Zane Lowe, 51, who takes the popstars for a spin.
The former Radio 1 star goes for a drive in Chappell’s hometown in Missouri with her parents and heads to Japan to catch up with Dua, 29, while he hits the roads in LA with Lady Gaga, 38.
The hitmakers each sing a variety of Christmas classics – including Wham’s Last Christmas and Santa Claus is Coming To Town by J Fred Coots and Haven Gillespie – as well as their own bangers.
On X, fans declared Christmas had come early after Apple TV unexpectedly dropped A Carpool Karaoke Christmas without warning a year after The Late Late Show ended.
They were also left in tears when Chappell’s parents Kara and Dwight spoke movingly about the impact their daughter’s music had on the LGBTQ+ community.
@xselene_ stated: ‘Literally cried when Chappell’s parents talked about how proud they are of her and what she stands for about respect for all people and loving everybody #ACarpoolKaraokeChristmas.’
Echoing their sentiment, @withlovejohana said: ‘Chappell’s mom talking about how proud she is of her and her dad crying as she says all this. I cannot #acarpoolkaraokechristmas.’
Expressing their desire to watch the special, @JustMe_AbFab76 declared: ‘Oh wow!!! Now it’s officially Christmas Time!!!’
Carpool Karaoke was a segment on James Corden’s Late Late Show, which ended last April after eight years and 1,200 episodes.
It saw James taking a famous singer out for a drive while they sang along to their hits with previous guests including Jennifer Lopez, Justin Bieber, Britney Spears and Adele.
The Cats actor, 46, previously explained his decision to step away from The Late Late Show, which is filmed in the US, was put roots down in London and spend more time with his family.
On The Drew Barrymore Show, he said: ‘Look it’s not easy in any way to walk away from something that is so… I mean I’ll never work in a better environment than the one I work in now.
‘Nothing about leaving the show was to do with not enjoying it. I love it, but the truth is it became a very easy decision because I always knew it was an adventure and I never ever considered it to be the final destination.’
James will next be seen in the much-anticipated final-ever episode of Gavin and Stacey on Christmas Day.
A Carpool Karaoke Christmas is available to stream on Apple TV Plus.
