- Mobile Legends: Bang Bang is the latest mobile exclusive to return for the Esports World Cup
- They’ll once more feature at the second instalment of the competition in 2025
- Selangor Red Giants took home the gold this year
With the Esports World Cup 2024 seemingly a roaring, or at least formidable, success there’s been plenty of publishers confirming the return of their top games for 2025. Garena’s Free Fire has already confirmed their return, and now Moonton’s Mobile Legends: Bang Bang is also confirmed to join the lineup.
The Esports World Cup would host two events that were featured by Mobile Legends: Bang Bang. The MLBB Mid Season Cup and MLBB Women’s Invitational saw teams from regions across the world journeying to Riyadh to compete.
The MSC saw Selangor Red Giants take home the gold, while the Women’s Invitational was won by Smart Omega Empress when they took down Team Vitality, which up until that point had boasted an unbroken win streak of 25 consecutive championships dating back to 2021.
Big, but big enough?
As far as it seems, it looks as if virtually all of the previously featured games from the Esports World Cup will be making a return. However, for all their strength, I can’t help but notice that very few if any are actually hosting truly major competitions.
MLBB’s main event being a mid-season cup, for example, does seem to indicate to fans that the Esports World Cup is seen as more of a sideshow than the main event. Which can be taken as both good and bad. Good in the sense it means that the EWC doesn’t overshadow existing leagues, but bad in the sense that it can be seen to simply play second banana to the main event.
In any case, for those who’re fans, you’ll be very pleased to so many returning to this glitzy tournament.
