- TrainStation 3 is slated to release sometime in 2025
- It promises to offer PC-level graphics and management gameplay
- You’ll be able to handle everything from refuelling to decoupling
Fans of the long-running railway simulation series, TrainStation, will have a big year ahead of them. If you’re a fan of managing the intricate details of railway infrastructure, you’ll be pleased to know the third instalment of this franchise is well on the way; because TrainStation 3: Journey of Steel is releasing 2025.
Offering PC-level graphics and immersive management of every aspect of the railway, you’ll handle everything from micro-level management like refuelling and coupling wagons, to handling the optimisation of massive lines. You may recognise that TrainStation 3 is already in soft launch in a number of regions, with development well underway.
TrainStation 3 looks set to be the most ambitious release in the series thus far, and a brief glance at the developer diaries for it paints a picture of a management and tycoon sim that wants to hold up against even big-name PC releases. And with the development from 2D locomotion to 3D in the series so far, the folksat Pixel Federation may just have the chops to do it.
On a rail
Taking on other management simulators in the railway niche is certainly an ambitious one. This is, after all, the granddaddy of them all when it comes to special-interest hobbies, and nothing, not miniatures, comic-book collecting or otherwise can hold a candle to the intricacy and sometimes absurdity of the railway community.
You need to only look as far as Pixel Federation’s elaborate, celebratory diorama that they constructed based on player feedback to see that their heart is in the right place. So I reckon if nothing else, that enthusiasm will be a key component towards TrainStation 3’s hopeful success.
