Whether it’s buccaneering, plunder or privateering, despite it historically being a pretty awful profession, the idea of being a pirate still grabs the imagination. So if you’re looking for a more laid-back and fun way to play out your high-seas fantasy, why not take a look at Tile Tales: Pirates?
At a glance, it’s easy to write off Tile Tales as a simple low-poly puzzler but scratch the surface and you’ll find a whole lot more. Mixing in aspects of adventurers and a little bit of narrative, you’ll play as a treasure-obsessed pirate exploring a mysterious island to find some shiny loot.
You’ll guide him through 90 hand-crafted puzzles across nine chapters, interacting with a variety of distinctive characters along the way. You’ll help solve their problems and progress across the island, taking on deadly foes and tricky traps as you go, all the while using the relatively simple tile-sliding mechanics in new and creative ways.
Tiles ahoy
I was pleasantly surprised upon looking into Tile Tales: Pirate. I had expected this to be a relatively straightforward, story-lite experience entirely focused on the puzzles. But the charming graphics and the ability to engage with the characters you meet, solving distinctive puzzles and taking on both foes and traps indicates there’s a bit more depth to this than your average entry in the genre.
Available right now for only $3.99 on iOS and Android, for an all-ages experience it looks as if Tile Tales: Pirate can deliver with aplomb. But, as with all things, you’ll have to give it a go for yourself to find out.
