While I’m sure I could ever-so-humbly say that our own Pocket Gamer Awards set the standard for mobile accolades, I might also begrudgingly admit that others do exist. For example, the Huawei AppGallery Awards just wrapped up their 2024 edition. So, let’s dive in and see what the folks behind this alternative storefront have chosen to celebrate their fifth anniversary.
To start, Game of the Year was taken home by Summoners War; which may set the mood for what kind of wins you’ll have in these awards. You won’t be seeing any of the typical ones here I can tell you that.
As for the further ones we’ve got:
- Best Action Game: PUBG Mobile
- Best RPG Games: Hero Wars: Alliance, Epic Seven
- Best SLG Games: Evony: The King’s Return, World of Tanks Blitz
- Best Family Games: Candy Crush Saga, Gardenscapes
- Best Trending Games: Mecha Domination: Rampage, Tokyo Ghoul: Break the Chains
Beyond the app store
Personally speaking, there are definitely a few picks there that I wouldn’t personally have selected. But then I think it bears noting that a glance at our own awards shows that we tend to have a slight bias towards more Western games with passionate fanbases. The Huawei AppGallery meanwhile seems to favour those being released elsewhere in the globe for better or for worse.
Therefore I think it is healthy to see that others have made some big wins, and with the door to alternative app stores being blown off its hinges this year, I’m sure that the Huawei AppGallery Awards will gain even more prestige as a result.
