There’s a free Jeff skin available during the first winter event for Marvel Rivals. Officially called the Cuddly Fuzzlefin costume, you’ll need to play a lot of matches of Jeff’s Winter Splash Festival (the new mode) before the Winter Celebration ends.
In this Marvel Rivals guide, we’ll walk you through how to get the free skin for Jeff the Land Shark for free before the event ends, and some tips for the Jeff’s Winter Splash Festival game mode.
How to get the free Jeff skin in Marvel Rivals
To get the free Jeff skin in Marvel Rivals, you have to fully unlock the Winter Celebration event card before the event ends on Thursday, Jan. 9 at 11 a.m. EST. The Cuddly Fuzzlefin costume is the last reward on the card’s track.
To do so, you’ll need to use 10 Golden Frost to upgrade all five decorations on Jeff’s holiday card, which will net you the 500 Wintery Atmosphere you’ll need to unlock the skin and all of Jeff’s other themed goodies.
The Cuddly Fuzzlefin costume is not available for purchase in the Marvel Rivals shop.
How to get Golden Frost in Marvel Rivals
Like Chrono Tokens or Units, you’ll earn Golden Frost by completing event-specific missions, which you can only complete in the Jeff’s Winter Splash Festival Game mode.
For every main event mission you complete, you’ll get one Golden Frost, and you’ll need two Golden Frosts to upgrade a single decoration on your holiday card. For each decoration you upgrade, you’ll get 100 Wintery Atmosphere, which will enable you to unlock Cuddly Fuzzlefin-themed rewards, including a spray, an emote, a nameplate, an MVP animation, and, finally, the costume itself.
There is one major caveat: You’re limited in how many Golden Frost you can earn per day. (You start with two Golden Frost missions, but it currently looks like you’ll only gain one new one each day.) This means you’ll have to log into Marvel Rivals regularly over the holidays if you want to get enough Golden Frost to unlock Jeff’s festive new skin.
There are other daily missions as part of the event, but they award Silver Frost, which is used to buy cosmetic-only variations on Jeff’s card. While cute and festive, you don’t need any Silver Frost to unlock the Cuddly Fuzzlefin costume.
Tips for winning Jeff’s Winter Splash Festival game
The Jeff’s Winter Splash Festival game mode asks you to use a variation of Jeff — one with more winter-themed abilities — to paint the holiday version of the Yggsgard: Royal Palace map. Use Jeff’s main attack to paint the ground, heal allies, and damage enemies.
The mode only lasts for three minutes, and the team who paints the largest percentage of the map before the timer runs out is the winner.
While cute, you do actually need to win in this game mode in order to unlock enough Golden Frost to get the Cuddly Fuzzlefin costume. Below, we’ve listed a few tips to help you win some matches of Jeff’s Winter Splash Festival and complete your daily missions:
- Your alternate fire does the most damage, but is harder to aim, so try using your primary fire if you just need a bit more damage to finish an enemy.
- Try to be the second player in an engagement to use your ultimate, as you can both avoid an enemy Jeff’s ult while using yours, and swallow them whole at the same time.
- Speaking of your ultimate, it paints a massive patch of land all at once, so it’s OK to use it to recapture a massive amount of enemy territory even if there are no enemy Jeff’s around — especially at the end of a match.
- Don’t forget to paint the spawn areas for both yourself and the enemy team, as players often overlook these places.
- Use your Blasting Bubble ability on cooldown. It explodes a few seconds after putting it down, and both damages nearby enemies and paints a large area of territory.
- If you’re in an engagement that you’re unlikely to win, use your Hide and Seek to dive earlier than you think you should, as it has a bit of a windup animation.
- Try and help your fellow Jeff’s in a duel, as many 1v1 battles can come down to a single missed shot. Having two Jeff’s is much better than one.
- Matches swing very quickly in Jeff’s Winter Splash Festival, so don’t give up if you’re behind early, and don’t get too comfortable with your lead when you’re winning.
