New Wolves manager Vitor Pereira admits he is unsure if Matheus Cunha will be available for Wolves’ Premier League clash against Leicester City on Sunday.
Earlier this week, Cunha was charged with misconduct by the Football Association over his clash with a member of Ipswich Town’s security staff after the team’s 2-1 defeat last Saturday.
During a brawl after the full-time whistle, Cunha was seen pushing the Ipswich staff member in the face, which knocked off his glasses.
The Brazilian, who has scored eight goals in the Premier League this season, is now facing a ban.
However, Wolves are understood to be expecting Cunha to be available for their trip to Leicester this weekend as they are not expecting a final judgement until next week.
When asked about Cunha’s availability against Leicester, Pereira said on Friday: ‘I’m not sure because we haven’t decided. He is an important player in our team.’
Pereira was appointed as Wolves’ new manager this week following the club’s decision to sack Gary O’Neil.
The 56-year-old most recently managed Saudi Pro League side Al Shabab but his career has also included spells at Olympiacos, Fenerbahce, 1860 Munich, Shanghai SIPG, Corinthians as well as four different Portuguese clubs.
‘The last 14 years of my career, my focus was to come to England,’ he said.
‘To compete with the best coaches, this is the seat I want to be in. I want to be in this league to compete, challenge myself and I’m ready.
‘I remember the first step outside the country [Portugal] was to Saudi Arabia 14 years ago. When I left Porto, my target was a club in England.
‘I had a meeting at that time to come to England but after a prince knocked on the door and convinced me, I did not go to England. I never imagined I’d go to Saudi.
‘I had some approaches from clubs in England [in the past] but Wolves did the step forward to finish.’
