Jonah Yano is a hard person to pin down. An artist who works with alacrity, his soulful, genre-agnostic evades descriptors, while embracing emotion.
Recently returning with new album ‘Jonah Yano & The Heavy Loop’, the Montreal maverick toasted the release with a marathon 24-hour improvised set with his band. A daring gesture, it’s just one extreme within his creative process – he’s also able of conjuring frosted beauty with Clairo on album standout ‘Snowpath’, for instance.
The record has been a firm CLASH staple during these colder months, so we invited Jonah Yano to build a very special DJ mix.
The results are now in. Opening with a dose of funky soul, it pivots into some downcast songwriting courtesy of Feist and St. Vincent, before ending with the righteous reverberations of avant garde jazz.
Jonah comments…
“This mix is a bunch of songs I was listening to a lot on recent trip to Tokyo. Just some really nice music to while biking around the city from neighbourhood to neighbourhood. Hope you enjoy!”
