Bloober Team took on the daunting challenge of remaking one of gaming’s all-time classics. Originally released 23 years ago, the Konami masterpiece required more than just a fresh coat of paint. The talented developers masterfully modernized the experience, preserving the essence of the original while seamlessly incorporating contemporary elements.
6 – Black Myth: Wukong

4 – Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth
Swapping the streets of Japan for the sunny beaches in Hawaii, Infinite Wealth sees Kasuga team up with Kiryu in arguably the greatest release in its 19-year history. With ridiculous mini-games, hilarious side stories and deep, strategic combat, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth earns a deserved spot on our Game of the Year list.
3 – Metaphor: ReFantazio
Atlus, masters of the craft, has delivered some of the best JRPGs in the medium, from Persona to Shin Megami Tensei, consistently producing modern classics. Metaphor: ReFantazio not only continues this legacy but elevates it to new heights. With fresh strategic elements in turn-based combat and a rich high-fantasy setting, this adventure stands as one of the finest examples in the JRPG genre.
2 – Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
Continuing the epic journey of Cloud, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth proceeds to develop the iconic tale from the original. With its dynamic combat system and expansive world-building, the sequel manages to improve on several elements from its predecessor to create a truly awe-inspiring adventure. Not only a landmark moment for the storied franchise but also a standout title for 2024
Honorable mentions
While the following games didn’t make our top 10, they received plenty of votes and deserve a special shout-out. The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, Batman: Arkham Shadow, Helldivers 2, Tekken 8 and Mario + Luigi Brothership.
1 – Astro Bot
Taking the top spot for 2024’s Game of the Year is the incredible Astro Bot. Bursting with charm, this innovative platformer delights at every turn. A true love letter to gaming, the adventure features iconic characters from gaming history, with character-specific levels that pay tribute to them. The brilliant use of the DualSense controller makes every interaction feel immersive, adding a tactile dimension to the experience. With Sony finally giving Team Asobi the reins to create a full adventure, it’s thrilling to see they’ve knocked it out of the park, rightfully earning the crown for 2024.
