Prime Minister Trudeau likely had high hopes that he could simply fire Chrystia Freeland and quickly slide Mark Carney in to replace her as finance minister. Carney has long been sought after by the Liberal party as its potential leader. That plan failed miserably, with Trudeau having to get close friend Dominic LeBlanc to be finance minister. Carney likely had no desire to become leader of a party that could spend eight years in the wilderness.
Now, with Liberals at 20 per cent in recent polls, even if Trudeau quits, finding someone eager to replace him may well be difficult. By resigning rather than agreeing to push Trudeau’s spend-fest, Freeland obviously has the inside track should she want that job. As the finance minister of a government that has chalked up more red ink than any previous Canadian government, Freeland would bring a lot of baggage.

WANTS IT BOTH WAYS
Educated as a lawyer, I would expect NDP Leader Singh to possess a modicum of intelligence.
Despite that expectation, he consistently calls for Justin Trudeau to resign while continually propping him up. Notably following the Freeland fiasco, he unequivocally demanded Trudeau must step down. Yet, in his very next breath, when asked if he would vote to defeat the government in a confidence vote (thus taking an important step towards Justin’s removal), he said, “Everything is on the table.” Translation: No, I won’t vote non-confidence.
This ongoing hypocrisy of wanting things both ways, while presuming the public isn’t wise to this self-serving duplicity, certainly does not demonstrate many smarts.

ANOTHER NAUSEATING SPEECH
If Justin Trudeau thinks his latest nauseating speech to his minions after his latest disastrous scandal was inspirational, he is absolutely delusional. Erratic Jagmeet Singh is now demanding that Trudeau resign. How about calling for an election instead?
Replacing Trudeau does not solve the problem of this incompetent government. Trudeau is done. Now he’ll probably go on one of his lavish winter holidays thinking this will blow over. Canadians will not forget and he and his government will be held accountable.
