Tsunami 20th anniversary: Kanniyakumari recalls horrors

December 26, 2024, marks 20 years since a devastating tsunami struck the coasts of several countries bordering the Indian Ocean, including Indonesia, Thailand, Sri Lanka, and India. The tsunami left an indelible scar on the lives of thousands.
In Tamil Nadu’s Kanyakumari, survivors recall being struck by towering waves, which seemed to rise to the skies, sweeping away children, pregnant women, and the elderly in moments.
The hardest-hit were families in Kulachal and Kottilpadu, where entire households were wiped out.
