Alabama residents affected by a 2020 data breach may be in line for a payout of up to $6,000, thanks to a settlement worth $21 million.
Arthur J. Gallagher & Co., an insurance brokerage firm, is offering this compensation after being accused of failing to protect sensitive customer and employee information from hackers. The breach exposed personal data, including Social Security numbers, medical records, and financial details. Though the company denies any wrongdoing, they’ve agreed to settle the lawsuit by setting aside the substantial sum for eligible claimants.
If you received a notice that your information was compromised between June 3 and September 26, 2020, you could qualify for compensation. Those who can prove financial losses—like fraud, identity theft, or credit expenses—may be eligible for up to $6,000. If you didn’t experience any losses, you can still benefit by opting for three years of free financial monitoring or a portion of the settlement funds.
California residents are in for a little extra, receiving an additional $100.
To make a claim, keep in mind that the deadline to file objections or exclusions is January 13. Claims forms must be submitted by February 10 to ensure you don’t miss out on your share.
This could be a simple way for Alabamians impacted by the breach to get some much-needed financial relief.
