Veteran forward Tye Spencer has been traded from the WHL’s Regina Pats to the Wenatchee Wild. Spencer, a Saskatoon product who didn’t appear in Regina’s last two games, was dealt for a seventh-round pick in the 2025 prospects draft.

“The priority in this deal was to give a great kid the opportunity to finish his career in the WHL and open up further opportunities for our group of young forwards,” Pats general manager Alan Millar said in a media release.

A third-round draft pick of the Kamloops Blazers in 2019, 2004-born Spencer was traded to Regina in January, 2022. He was third among Pats scorers this season with 21 points on nine goals and 12 assists.
The Pats also dealt the rights to 2007-born defender Dylan LeBret to the Tri-City Americans for a 2027 ninth-round pick and a conditional 2027 fourth-round pick. Born in Washington, the Pats selected LeBret third overall in the 2002 U.S. draft. He has not played in the WHL and is playing prep hockey in the States.

Former Saskatchewan Roughriders receiver Chris Getzlaf has joined the Regina Thunder’s coaching staff as an offensive consultant. The reigning Prairie Football Conference champions also announced Carter Gusway will replace Stefan Endsin as the team’s offensive co-ordinator.
A University of Regina alumnus, Gusway started his coaching career at Miller High School in 2016. He had short stints at St. Lawrence University, in Germany and at Bowdoin College before becoming Regina’s quarterbacks coach last season.
Getzlaf spent 2000-04 playing for the Thunder and spent two seasons with the University of Regina Rams before an 11-year CFL career that included Grey Cup victories in 2009 and 2013 with the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
