The Fiji National Provident Fund (FNPF) is in the process of developing a new medical insurance scheme, aligning with its strategic initiative to provide products that improve the overall quality of life for its members.
This new offering aims to further support members by addressing their healthcare needs.
FNPF chief executive officer Viliame Vodonaivalu confirmed the scheme was a work-in-progress, with the Fund ensuring that it meets all regulatory and technical requirements before its official launch.
“The medical insurance scheme is part of the Fund’s strategic direction to provide members with relevant products that contribute towards improving their quality of life,” Mr Vodonaivalu stated in a written response to questions by this newspaper.
He added that like other FNPF products, the medical insurance scheme would be available to members, with specific eligibility criteria to be disclosed once the product design was finalised.
“While we are assessing all options pertaining to the product scheme design, we want to ensure members will have the ability to access quality healthcare, particularly at tertiary level,” he said.
Although the scheme is designed for current members, Mr Vodonaivalu indicated that the fund would also consider extending similar opportunities to its pensioners in the future.
In November 2024, FNPF issued an expression of interest (EOI) for the Members Medical Insurance policy, with the submission period closing at the end of December last year.
“The response has been quite positive, and we are working towards engaging the successful bidder once all our processes for EOIs are completed.”
Once implemented, the medical insurance scheme is expected to provide valuable healthcare support to FNPF members, further expanding the Fund’s offerings to meet the needs of its diverse membership base.
