A worker employed at a travel agency in Afzalgunj sustained injuries after being shot at on Thursday (January 16) evening. Police said the person who opened fire and the individual with him are suspected to be involved in the shooting at Bidar, Karnataka.
Confirming the incident, DCP (East Zone) K. Bala Swamy said the victim, Jahangir, who works at Roshan Travels, was inspecting the baggage of a passenger who was acting suspiciously when bundles of currency notes were found in it. “Mr. Jahangir questioned the individual about its source. In response, the suspect drew a country-made pistol and fired at Jahangir before fleeing with the bag,” said the officer.
The suspects had reportedly visited the travel office earlier in the day, around 3:30 p.m., to book tickets for Raipur in Chhattisgarh. Later, around 6:30 p.m., passengers were being transported in a mini-bus from Afzalgunj to the Bowenpally boarding point, from where luxury buses begin their journeys.
The East Zone police have deployed four teams to identify and apprehend the suspects. “CCTV footage indicates that these individuals may be the same culprits involved in a recent heist in Bidar. Further probe is on to ascertain the same,” added the DCP.
Mr. Jahangir is recovering at a private hospital, and his condition has been declared stable and out of danger.
At Bidar’s Shivaji Chowk, bike-borne attackers fired six rounds on Thursday morning, killing one security guard and injuring another, before making off with ₹93 lakh, which was intended to be loaded into a State Bank of India ATM.
