In response to discussions on social media about DeepSeek’s capabilities, Musk reacted to a post suggesting that the company possesses around 50,000 Nvidia H100 chips but cannot disclose details due to US export restrictions. He simply stated, “Obviously”.
World’s richest man and Tesla CEO Elon Musk has expressed scepticism regarding the claims made by the Chinese AI startup DeepSeek, which recently gained attention for surpassing ChatGPT as the most downloaded free app on the Apple App Store in the United States. Musk’s doubts were directed at DeepSeek’s claims that it could train its AI model, DeepSeek-V3, using only 2,000 specialised Nvidia chips, a contrast to the 16,000 chips typically required by leading models.
In response to discussions on social media about DeepSeek’s capabilities, Musk reacted to a post suggesting that the company possesses around 50,000 Nvidia H100 chips but cannot disclose details due to US export restrictions. He simply stated, “Obviously,” indicating his disbelief in the claims being made.

Also, when Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff suggested that DeepSeek’s rise demonstrated that AI development does not solely depend on expensive GPUs, Musk retorted with a dismissive “Lmao no.”
In another post, Musk called it ‘Deeperseek’.
Musk’s comments come amid a broader context of concern within the tech industry, as DeepSeek’s rapid ascent has triggered significant stock market reactions. Major tech companies like Nvidia and Microsoft have seen sharp declines in their stock prices following DeepSeek’s announcements. The situation highlights ongoing tensions in the AI sector and raises questions about the future landscape of artificial intelligence development.
