On Tuesday, the CFL club announced the signing of American running back Trent Pennix, a 6-foot-2, 234-pounder who spent time with the NFL’s Indianapolis Colts last year.
After a college career at North Carolina State from 2018-23, the 25-year-old Pennix joined the Colts following the 2024 NFL Draft before being released. He then rejoined the Colts in October and spent the remainder of the season on the practice roster.

In college with the Wolfpack, Pennix played 54 games over six seasons where he lined up at both tight end and running back. He recorded 55 receptions for 712 yards and 11 touchdowns while also racking up 41 carries for 240 yards and a touchdown along the ground.
Pennix joins a Roughriders roster that also features running backs A.J. Ouellette and Ryquell Armstead along with fullbacks Albert Awachie and Morgen Runge.
Running back Frankie Hickson is a pending free agent while Thomas Bertrand-Hudon and Clint Ratkovich are already on the open market after ending the season on the practice roster.
