ALL THAT MONEY FOR MARKET?

Re: Walk in the Market; Ottawa shows off $129M ByWard plan, Jan. 22
Is it just me or does this city have its priorities messed up?
We have a growing homeless population, roads that are in atrocious condition, a transit system that’s subpar at best, and an aging sewage system that results in numerous sewer breaks every year, but let’s take $129 million of our scarce tax dollars and use the money on what amounts to about four blocks and make it pretty. So much money being spent on so many things that are minor in the scheme of things.
While I understand that the area is a tourist attraction and needs help, it’s not the only area in the city that does. Our taxes keep going up, but it seems only a fraction of the city benefits.
Rural residents pay for services and infrastructure they don’t even use or get (storm sewers, transit). Then city has the gall to make taxpayers responsible for informing them that they actually live in their homes. How about they get the water and hydro companies to inform them, since they have easy access to that info? Little to no use of those services is a clear indication that the home is vacant.

If I’m going to be made to do the city’s job, then I want a reduction in my property taxes.

REPUTATION TAKES HIT
Joe Rogan’s podcast has 19 million subscribers and 5.79 billion views, and his lengthy interview of Donald Trump during the campaign helped Trump win.
The fact Rogan felt compelled to call out Justin Trudeau in such a vicious way is not good for Canada’s reputation around the world. By staying on after announcing he would resign, Trudeau continues to do serious harm to Canada. Trump keeps trolling Trudeau about being the governor of the 51st state because he has zero respect for him. That fact makes negotiations on tariffs much more difficult.

SO REASSURING
“We are prepared for every possible scenario.”

Comforting words from our lame-duck prime minister. Unfortunately, Canadians have had nine years of listening to him talk while seemingly never actually following through with actions.
I am doubtful that many believe Canada is prepared for the potential tsunami called Donald Trump — despite Justin Trudeau’s shallow assurances.
