Montreal-based singer-songwriter Hanorah has revealed the details of her upcoming EP. Closer Than Hell is slated to drop on May 9 via Ensoul Records. With the announcement, she’s also shared “Barbed Wire,” — a dive into the wounds of a broken friendship.
Following the release of her nostalgia-inducing music video for “Matty” earlier this month, Hanorah digs even deeper into the complexities of her emotional landscape with “Barbed Wire.” The track is a collision of shoegaze textures and soaring rhythm, curating an intricate soundscape with a brash horn section.
“Barbed Wire” marks a turning point for Hanorah, as her sound continues to evolve past her previous R&B and soul-leaning work, as heard on her 2023 project Time Waits For No Woman, while continuing to evoke the stylings of Etta James and Janis Joplin.
