Re: Butting out for kids; New research bolsters calls for smoke-free generations in Canada, Jan. 24
So now we have someone who wants to make it illegal for those born after a certain year to smoke cigarettes. The next thing will be that those born after a certain year won’t be allowed to buy alcohol.
We already have Justin Trudeau trying to force us all to buy electric vehicles after a certain year, even though the majority of Canadians can’t afford them. So Canada will go back to the horse and buggy for transportation. Then they’ll ban the horse and buggy because of all the horse poop everywhere.
I’m a senior, but I don’t want politicians telling me or anyone in this so-called free country what legal things we can or can’t do.

NO APOLOGY NECESSARY
Regarding a recent headline about Donald Trump demanding an apology from a “nasty” bishop who asked him to have mercy on LGBTQ+ people and migrants, the position taken by Bishop Mariann Budde on migrants is consistent with Biblical passages going back to the Bronze Age or early Iron Age.
The Bible contains rules on granting sanctuary and the treatment of strangers. No one should have to apologize for giving a reasonable and longstanding interpretation of scripture even if not all Christians agree with that interpretation.
Pope Francis has recently called Trump’s plan for mass deportation a “disgrace.” I hope Trump does not demand an apology from the Pope or the Catholic Church.

BUT POILIEVRE SUPPORTED BULLIES
Re: Poilievre says he’s only aware of two genders, challenges interviewer to name others for him ‘to consider,’ online, Jan. 22
Pierre Poilievre denies the existence of sexually diverse citizens, but sure was happy to support the caravan of bullies who closed down Ottawa, the capital of Canada. Imagine electing such bigotry and vileness.
