Cheats for The Sims 1 are a fantastic way to get extra simoleons and fix up your house quickly. Now that Maxis Studios and Electronic Arts re-released the original game to Windows PC as part of The Sims: Legacy Collection, it’s time to brush up on some of those retro cheat codes from when it first released.
Below, we list all the cheats in The Sims we could verify as working in The Sims: Legacy Collection, along with what they do, and how to use them. And if you’re looking for more Legacy Collection cheats, see our guide to The Sims 2 cheat codes.
But a quick disclaimer first: A number of known cheat codes for the original Sims release, courtesy of The Sims Wiki, did not appear to work in the re-release. Polygon’s testing for a number of codes repeatedly returned a notification reading “No such cheat!” We’ll update this guide if and when we’re able to confirm additional cheats.
How to input cheats in The Sims 1
You can press Ctrl+Shift+C on PC to open the text command bar. This will pull up a small gray bar in the top left-hand corner of your screen where you can type. Punch your code in there and hit enter to load the cheat and close the text bar. Note, that each code is not case-sensitive.
The Sims has a few shortcuts that make entering codes easier. To repeat the last cheat you did, type “!” (a single exclamation point) and it will automatically reload the last cheat you did. You can also use a semicolon enter several at once. For example, you could type “rosebud; interests” and it would load both those cheats. Just use the semicolon to separate each code.
The Sims 1 money cheat code
If you remember one cheat code from when you originally played The Sims, it’s likely the money cheat — “rosebud” — which gives you 1,000 Simoleons instantly, and is perfect if you want to finish off a room’s décor then and there, or need to quickly pay the bills.
