The Regina-born rocker makes his return to the Casino Regina Show Lounge Friday night, headlining a busy weekend on the local entertainment calendar.
1. Chasing the Sun
James is touring North America in support of his latest album, Chasing the Sun.
One of Canada’s most recognized blues-rock musicians, James is an eight-time Juno winner and a member of the Canadian Music Industry Hall of Fame, known for hit songs like Five Long Years, Voodoo Thing, Just Came Back, and Stay.

2. Snowed in Comedy Tour
Dan Quinn is bringing Canada’s largest travelling standup comedy show to the Regina Performing Arts Centre on Friday night as part of a 70-city national tour.
Quinn, a former Just For Laughs winner, is joined by Erica Sigurdson (CBC’s The Debaters), Pete Zedlacher (Gemini nominee and winner of the Canadian comedian-of-the-year award), and Paul Myrehaug (Great Canadian Laugh-Off winner).
The tour has been running since 2009.
“Years ago, Dan Quinn wanted to find a way for him and his buddies to snowboard in the winter while still paying their rent,” says a media release. “That’s when it hit him: a comedy tour, centred around slopes. It turned out, he was on to something. Now in its 16th year, the tour is an underdog success story. It’s especially notable at a time when musicians and other touring acts are struggling to make a profit on the road.”

3. Ukrainian dance
The Calgary-based Tryzub Ukrainian Dance Society is holding a 14-city benefit concert tour for its 50th anniversary show, Dzvinka, which stops at the Riddell Centre on Friday night.

According to a news release, Tryzub has received awards from the Ukrainian Canadian Congress and Oxford University for being a world leader in supporting the mental health and resilience of youth displaced by war in Ukraine.
The show provides an opportunity to celebrate Ukrainian culture and to “help maintain public awareness of the magnitude of the disruption and devastation caused by the conflict in Ukraine,” says the release.
Funds generated by Dzvinka go towards supporting Ukrainians who relocate to Western Canada, among other related causes.

4. Heritage Regina series
Heritage Regina is exploring the stories of immigrants within Saskatchewan’s diverse cultural history through a lecture series that continues Saturday night at Darke Hall with a “step back in time to a day in the life of 20th century Regina.”
That day is April 27, 1907 — less than a year after Regina was named the capital city of newly-formed Saskatchewan. Local historian and architectural designer John Robinson presents a look back at what it was like to be in downtown Regina on that day through a selection of newspaper clippings, photos, music and more.

Attendees are welcome to dress in their best period costumes.
“The research and care John brings to his lectures is unparalleled, and his knowledge as an architectural designer brings such richness to each presentation,” Sarah Wood, Heritage Regina’s executive director, says in a news release. “This multi-media lecture is one we are really looking forward to as it gives us a snapshot into the lives of newcomers in Regina in 1907. John’s lectures are usually packed — be sure to come early.”
Subsequent lectures include: Canada’s Ukrainian community (March 6), Chinese immigration (March 20) and First Nations (April 3).

5. Raptors on the big screen
The Toronto Raptors’ 30th anniversary is being celebrated in theatres across Canada with a special double feature of two documentaries: Inbound and We The North: From Prehistoric to Historic.
The films, which chronicle the Raptors’ history and the growth of basketball in Canada, are set to run on Friday (7 p.m.), Saturday (12:30 p.m.), Sunday (4:30 p.m.) and Monday (7 p.m.) at Cineplex Normanview.
