Kodiyampalayam beach, located 20 km from Chidambaram and 16 km from Pichavaram, is set to be developed as a tourist destination with improved infrastructure and amenities.
The Tamil Nadu Tourism Department has proposed a ₹1.23 crore project to enhance the beach’s appeal and cater to the increasing number of visitors.
Known for its clean and serene environment, the beach has been attracting a growing number of tourists, particularly on weekends, from neighboring districts. In 2022, the site recorded around 40,000 domestic visitors, which increased to 60,000 in 2023 and is estimated to reach 75,000 in 2024.
Following requests from local MLAs, a detailed project report was prepared by the tourism department, outlining key improvements. The project includes the construction of a viewing deck for scenic enjoyment, Information desks offering refreshments and local products, a visitor plaza for relaxation and activities, and the development of restrooms to enhance hygiene facilities. Pathways will be created to provide easy access to the beach, while lighting installations will improve safety and enhance the ambiance at night. Additionally, gardens and green spaces will be introduced to beautify the landscape and create a more inviting environment for visitors.
Tourism Minister R. Rajendran inspected the site on Wednesday to assess the feasibility of the proposed development. The detailed project report has been submitted to the government and is currently awaiting fund sanctions for implementation.
