Let’s face it: Grand Theft Auto 6 is 2025’s most hyped game. Other great releases have also come out, yet nothing compares to the overwhelming force GTA 6 has on the gaming industry. Where it’ll launch, though, will impact this even more.
GTA 5 is available on numerous platforms, starting on the PS3 and Xbox 360 and later coming to the PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Let’s find out which platforms GTA 6 is confirmed to launch on and whether it’ll follow a similar course.
What platforms will GTA 6 release on?
Rockstar Games has confirmed that GTA 6 will launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S in 2025. While the exact launch day is unknown, we know it’ll be released on these two platforms, with no official word on when it’ll come to PC, older consoles, or future generations.

There’s currently no word on whether Grand Theft Auto 6 will follow a similar pattern as GTA 5. GTA 5 initially launched on the PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2013 before being ported to PS5 and Xbox One a year later. A few months later, it arrived on PC, with subsequent PS5 and Xbox X/S ports in 2022. While we’re unlikely to see GTA 6 on older consoles anytime soon, a PC port will likely arrive a year or two later. Take-Two has even commented on GTA 6’s PC port, implying it’s inevitable, even if it won’t happen anytime soon.
There’s also no official word on whether GTA 6 will launch on future consoles, but it’s highly likely. After all, we saw this happen with GTA 5, and capitalizing on the hype of a new console would only grow GTA 6’s popularity even more. Until we know when the next one will be released, though, it’s hard to gauge any sort of timeline for when it’ll happen.
