The State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) on Saturday registered a suo motu case regarding the transfer of a visually impaired Deputy Collector to a building without a lift.
SHRC member V. Geetha directed Alappuzha District Collector Alex Varghese to examine the matter and submit a report within seven days.
In a statement issued here, the SHRC said that Deputy Collector H. Rupesh was transferred from an office on the first floor of the Alappuzha District Collectorate to the District Insurance Office near EMS Stadium, which is located on the third floor. “Climbing the stairs to reach the third floor requires assistance. The building is not disabled-friendly, and the staircase has multiple turns,” the statement said.
