DI Humphrey Goodman (Kris Marshall) and his team from Shipton Abbott are making a triumphant return in the third series of Beyond Paradise at the end of March, set to bring mystery, humour, and plenty of heart to BBC audiences.
The show promises more complex mysteries and eccentric crimes for viewers to sink their teeth into. Meanwhile, Humphrey and Martha Lloyd (Sally Bretton) face new obstacles as they delve into fostering, welcoming nine-year-old Rosie to their home and the unexpected challenges she presents.
Kris has opened up about what’s in store for fans, particularly as Martha becomes entangled in one of Humphrey’s cases, admitting: “Humphrey doesn’t take it well. In a small town, it’s inevitable that people close to him will get caught up in cases.
“While he doesn’t believe she’s involved, he’s still obligated to investigate every angle which puts a strain on their relationship. It’s a tough situation for both of them.”
The actor also shared insights into Humphrey’s difficulties, explaining: “Martha is very busy, and Humphrey struggles with the emotional toll it takes to see someone he loves potentially involved in something criminal. It adds extra complications to an already challenging investigation.”
The upcoming series is bound to keep viewers on their toes, not just with the fostering dynamic and Martha’s dilemma but also with the return of Martha’s ex, Archie (Jamie Bamber), stirring the pot even further, reports the Express.
Despite the return of Archie to Shipton Abbott, it appears that DI Humphrey isn’t bothered by his presence. Kris remarked: “Humphrey doesn’t feel threatened by Archie’s return.
“He’s always been a confident and emotionally strong person, and he’s very secure in his relationship with Martha.
“In past series, his issues stemmed from Archie working so closely with Martha, but Humphrey isn’t concerned this time. He’s more bemused than anything else. He isn’t losing sleep over it and is accepting of the situation.”
Even though Archie has caused some tension in the past, Kris had nothing but positive words for his co-star Jamie Bamber. Describing the 51-year-old as ‘fantastic’, Kris emphasised how enjoyable it is to work with someone of a similar age.
He added: “Working with Jamie is fantastic. It’s nice to have another actor of a similar age and experience on set, especially since we have both been in the industry since the 90s.
“While we didn’t know each other well back then, we have a lot of mutual friends, and it’s great to have someone around who shares that history.
“Jamie is a seasoned actor and a lovely person who brings a lot of fun to the set. We get along really well and it’s always a pleasure working with him.”
Beyond Paradise will air on Friday March 28th on BBC One from 8pm.
