Paul O’Grady’s widower had admitted that he is selling their house. André Portasio, who tied the knot with the late star back in 2017, shared that he has had to make a number of “difficult decisions” after Paul died aged 67 two years ago. The TV presenter passed away on March 28, 2023 after suffering sudden cardiac arrhythmia, André has since admitted that he is worried if he is “doing the right thing” in moving away from their marital home in Kent.
He told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “I have been ok. Life just continues. Paul is always in my mind. I’ve had to make so many difficult decisions now. I am selling the house and you just hope he is there to guide me. Am I doing the right thing, am I not?”
Even more simple decisions are harder for Andre without Paul around. He said: “He was such a big personality in the house….deciding what to cook now is so hard. Paul never ate anything he kept as a pet so no chicken, no pork, no lamb. It was always very easy to know what to have for dinner.”
Following Paul’s death, their Kent home was inherited by Andre but has now been listed on property site Rightmove. The Lily Savage icon had lived in Knoll House, which boasts four reception rooms, from 1999 until his death.
The mansion sits on a 50-acre estate. It features an array of traditional elements, including French doors as well as personal touches such as bookcase wallpaper and a caravan in the garden.
It is currently on the market for £2.65 million, after Andre lopped almost £1million off the original asking price.
Estate agent Strutt and Parker said: “Knoll Hill House sits in a breathtaking position at the top of the escarpment above the Romney Marsh which affords the most sensational far-reaching views, looking across the marsh to the coast and the sea in the distance.
“Built in 1910 the house has much charm, providing a comfortable and spacious space in which to live and entertain against this stunning backdrop.”
