But Woll didn’t hesitate to spread the praise Sunday when he notched his 25th victory of the season in Anaheim.
He noted the 22 blocked shots by teammates in the 3-2 win and the 53 over the course of the three-game California trip, where Toronto took five of a possible six points. The Leafs are now fifth in NHL total blocks.
“The biggest thing is they’re putting the team first,” Woll told Sportsnet. “It’s just unselfish when you get guys in front of shots like that. They don’t have as much gear as me and it doesn’t feel good. We have a hell of a defence core.”
Woll added he has seen “a heightened discipline” when it comes to both blueliners and forwards making the sacrifice.
“That’s the stuff that wins championships, guys coming off the ice bruised and banged up. I appreciate that more than words can say. They’re putting their bodies on the line for me and Stolie and that’s awesome.”
The 25 victories are a career high for Woll at any level, while Stolarz has tied his NHL best of 16 with Florida last season.
