- Plantoons is a new title from a two-person development team
- Produced as part of a game jam, it riffs on the PvZ tower defence formula
- Completely free, duke it out in this roguelite garden warfare game
Gardening can be tedious. You have to make sure you plant the right things, at the right times, and take care of them in the right way. And then there’s the perennial threat of weeds and other menaces! So, why not take the legwork out of weeding and let your plants do the fighting? At least, that’s the gist of new game Plantoons.
While it may not impress in terms of graphics, this PvZ-alike promises to offer just as much depth to the gameplay as your garden becomes a battleground in this familiar-looking lane-based tower defense. Built on roguelite elements, you’ll slowly upgrade your garden as you progress through the rounds.
While, at the moment, the game is pretty barebones, for a two-person effort Plantoons looks to be worth a try. And for the low, low price of free, we’d feel mean-spirited not to say that it’s deserving of a go.

We noted Plantoons as a game jam creation, which if you’re not aware is a competition over a very limited span of time where developers compete to produce a fully-functional prototype of a game. While Plantoons is definitely riffing on the concept behind games like Plants vs Zombies, we think that it’s come out pretty well.
You can find Plantoons on Google Play for free, right now.
