The medical research and education wing of Windsor Regional Hospital got a significant boost Thursday when local eye surgeons Dr. Fouad Tayfour and Dr. Barry Emara donated $230,000.
This latest donation by the duo brings their contributions to the hospital to a total of $810,000. The latest funding will see $130,000 go towards the Tayfour-Emara Excellence in Research and Education Fund and $100,000 towards general ophthalmology equipment.

“The partnership with Windsor Regional Hospital continues to have a positive impact on the community we serve,” said Dr. Tayfour.
“Within a short period of time we have decreased cataract wait times, recruited more ophthalmologists to Windsor and allowed for other elective procedures to be completed in the hospital.”
The two doctors started their contributions in 2022 with a $250,000 donation and last year they added another $330,000. One of main focuses for the funds going to research and education will be on patient care improvement.
Having such funding contributions for research and education also helps in the hospital’s recruitment efforts, said Windsor Regional’s director of the office of research Gina Bulcke.
“It supports research at Windsor Regional and that helps us attract the best of the best, so Windsor Regional can become a centre of excellence for research,” Bulcke said.
“We’re looking to the future and what we want in the new acute care hospital.”
